What is microneedling?

Microneedling is a procedure that uses a specialized device equipped with tiny needles to create a series of minute punctures in the surface of the skin. These precisely controlled micro-injuries trigger a healing response, during which your skin naturally produces new collagen and elastin. What should I expect during my microneedling treatment?

Your provider at Dr. Alexis Aesthetics & Dr. Alexis Health begins by cleansing your skin and applying a topical numbing solution. Next, your provider applies the microneedling device over your skin’s surface to create micro-injury and begin the healing process, stimulating collagen and elastin production, and regenerating your skin. You may feel a little pressure, but you shouldn’t feel the needles pierce your skin.

Once the device creates the micro-injury, your provider applies medical-grade serums to your face to boost the effects of the microneedling process. Your skin may bleed slightly, but this should subside before your session is complete.

Following your microneedling treatment, you may experience some discomfort. Your provider gives you detailed instructions for at-home care and recommendations for pain relief.

It can take up to a week for your skin to heal after microneedling, and it may take a few weeks for results to become visible.

 

How many microneedling treatments will I need?

You’ll notice an improvement in your skin after just one microneedling treatment, but a series of treatments may be needed to reach your personal aesthetic goals. How many treatments are required depends on your skin type and other individual factors.
